Southeast Vancouver Seniors' Arts & Cultural Society is a group of dedicated individuals working to have a seniors' centre built in southeast Vancouver. The centre would house various arts and cultural activities for seniors, serving as a meeting and gathering place for older adults of all ethnic backgrounds. There is currently no seniors' centre in all of Southeast Van!
One of the ways we promote arts and culture for seniors is by holding events, such as the 2008 Gala of International Music & Dance.

SVSACS also promotes arts and culture for seniors by helping organize bus trips to local attractions and hosting monthly coffee houses featuring free movies.
On the 1st Wednesday of each month, join us for a free movie! Make new friends over an afternoon of film with coffee, tea, nibbles and most importantly Good Company! Bring your friends.

This is a story about the events surrounding the creation of the painting "Girl With a Pearl Earring" by 17th-century Dutch master Johannes Vermeer. Little is known about the girl in the painting, it is speculated that she was a maid who lived in the house of the painter along with his family and other servants, though there is no historical evidence. This masterful film attempts to recreate the mysterious girl's life. Griet, played by Scarlett Johansson, is a maid in the house of painter Johannes Vermeer, played by British actor Colin Firth. Vermeer's wealthy patron and sole means of support, Van Ruijven, commissions him to paint Griet with the intent that he will have her for himself before it is finished. She must somehow secretly pose for the crucial painting without the knowledge of Vermeer's wife, avoid Van Ruijven's grasp, and protect herself from the cruel gossip of the world of a 17th-century servant

She stayed there for 15 years. As the story develops Bennett learns that Miss Shepherd is really Margaret Fairchild (died 1989), a former gifted pupil of the pianist Alfred Cortot. She had played Chopin in a promenade concert, tried to become a nun, was committed to an institution by her brother, escaped, had an accident when her van was hit by a motorcyclist for which she believed herself to blame, and thereafter lived in fear of arrest
